Position Overview:
BWXT is looking for an experienced Development Database Administrator for an onsite position within our secured facility in Erwin, TN. By designing, implementing and maintaining databases to ensure data integrity, security and accessibility, this team member will support the BWXT focus on applying technology to solve business problems, supporting a software development team and analysts. 

Our ideal Development Database Administrator is highly skilled at managing databases in a software environment, primarily Microsoft SQL Server, and has knowledge of the technical environment of networks and application software.  Successful candidate will have a proven and thorough knowledge of database installation, design, security principles, query optimization, problem-solving, and best practices.

This person is core to the secure and smooth operation of applications, having various opportunities to work with all aspects of the IT environment.

Your Day to Day as a Database Administrator:

  • Design, develop, and implement database solutions that meet business requirements and ensure data integrity.
  • Design and manage secure installs of database servers, to include related products such as reporting tools.
  • Lead disaster recovery planning and recovery.
  • Design, implement, optimize and debug database systems and solutions, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views using T-SQL.
  • Implement SSIS and SSRS for data integration and reporting.
  • Adhere to architectural design standards, risk management and security policies, data management policies.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to provide technical support, in addition to ensuring successful database installations, and integration activities.
  • Document procedures for installation, design and processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new technologies and identify areas for improvement and timely upgrades.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant, hands-on experience 
    • OR High school diploma/equivalent, plus a minimum of 10 years of directly relevant, hands-on experience.
  • Comprehensive professional experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and the Microsoft environment:
    • Microsoft SQL Server current versions
    • SQL Server Replication
    • SQL Server High Availability
    • SQL Server Clustering
    • Power BI/Reporting Services
  • Understands Active Directory as it relates to the secure install and problem solving of the database environment.
  • Strong foundation in designing database permission models using schemas, roles and user accounts.
  • Technical proficiency in database design and query optimization.
  • Clear communicator, able to explain logic and outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking in resolving technical challenges.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Self-driven learner who can work independently and collaborate effectively.
  • Must be U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q and NRC U clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and prior implementation of DISA STIGs

Pay: $64,000 - $101,000

 

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $64,000 and $101,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
