Decommissioning Environmental Unit Manager -- Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. (BWXT) -  Erwin, TN



Summary Description of Job:


This position has management responsibility for decommissioning project and program elements comprised of and pertaining to environmental work scopes. The position also has functional management responsibility for environmental and project management resources required to plan and execute these work scopes.



Major Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Establishes goals and objectives for decommissioning and environmental work scopes consistent with company/client needs and strategic plans.  Defines project and program requirements for achieving goals/objectives including technical and management approaches, budget projections, and regulatory strategies.
  • Ensures project work scopes and performance criteria are clearly defined and communicated, and that costs schedules and resources are reasonably estimated.
  • Assigns responsibilities for planning and executing decommissioning and environmental projects and project activities.  Defines project organizations and directs the allocation of resources considering multiple priorities.
  • Directs the execution of work to ensure objectives are met with specified performance criteria.  Facilitates communication and coordination with functional management, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and others.
  • Controls project performance by measuring progress against baseline plans.  Takes timely and effective actions to minimize undesirable variances and correct potential cost and schedule overruns.
  • Provides management leadership technical, and administrative direction to staff. Promotes teamwork and maintains an environment for professional growth and experience.  Ensures ethical conduct and values the customers' interests.
  • Improves quality and performance by examining work practices to identify problem areas and causative factors; takes actions to enhance efficiency and minimize cost.  Instills an attitude of quality performance/quality improvement by recognizing and rewarding commendable performance.
  • Recognizes business development opportunities and initiates actions to achieve growth pursuant to corporate strategy.  Strengthens and/or maintains staff capabilities in targeted market segments and effectively allocates resources to support new work.


Education Requirements of Job:


B. S. degree in Environmental Science or related discipline preferred OR 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.


Experience Requirements of Job (Beyond educational or equivalent requirements):


Six to eight years' experience with B. S. degree OR in lieu of B. S. degree 14 years of relevant experience. Work experience should be directly related to decommissioning projects or work scopes.  Four to five years of project management experience is also required within, not in addition to, six to eight years of total decommissioning experience.






Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship (with no dual citizenship) and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
