Chemist Principal - Nuclear Fuel Services (BWXT) - Erwin, TN

 

 

Summary Description of Job:

 

This position is responsible to plan, initiate, and implement technical support of laboratory and plant operations to ensure stated objectives are achieved, and to develop new or innovative analytical methods.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Serves as technical specialist in the application of advanced laboratory techniques and applications.
  • As an individual contributor, conceptualizes, plans and executes complex research or investigations into alternate approaches and innovative techniques.
  • May be assigned to develop analytical techniques or evaluate new instrumentation to support development task work.
  • Stays well informed of new scientific methods and instrumentation with the purpose of recommending changes to analytical techniques or development of analytical techniques.
  • Liaison with internal organizations with responsibility to act independently on analytical matters pertaining to the field.
  • Function as technical/group leader, when assigned, to direct task group activities to accomplish objectives.
  • Plan courses of action to improve quality and efficiency of operations and ALARA control with the laboratory environment.
  • Develop business case summaries for analytical equipment to support capital project procurement.
  • In a technical/group leadership role, coordinate and manage group meetings supporting special efforts like new projects and Human Performance.
  • Provide technical expertise to production operations to provide specialized investigations through applications of advanced analytical techniques.

 

Education Requirements of Job:

 

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry

 

Experience Requirements of Job (Beyond educational or equivalent):

 

  • At least 15 years' experience beyond B. S. degree.
