We are currently recruiting for a Supplier Development Specialist for our facility in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.




The Supplier Development Specialist is responsible for interacting with supplier’s management team, promote Nuclear Culture and shall execute supplier development processes, tools and strategies to
continuously improve supplier’s performance and mitigate risks in terms of safety, quality, delivery, capacity and cost.


This position reports to the Manager, Procurement and has no direct reports.  Travel to supplier locations will be required frequently.




Interfacing with the suppliers’ management team


  • Ensure BWXT requirements are properly understood.
  • Ensure the supplier provides proper focus on BWXT orders.
  • Understand the suppliers’ facility and changes in staffing and equipment.
  • Increase nuclear awareness and ensure the supplier has a strong Nuclear Culture that is understood at all levels of their organization.


Source qualified suppliers


  • Visit with suppliers to stay current with vendor capabilities.
  • Investigate new manufacturing applications and interface with vendors’ senior management personnel.
  • Develop strategic product/commodity procurement and develop new vendors, considering all business factors including technical, market, commercial, scheduling and quality factors.
  • Increase Indigenous supply base.
  • Properly onboard new suppliers.

Continuous Improvement


  • Develop rapport with Engineering, Legal, Manufacturing and Project Management personnel in order to maximize supply chain management effectiveness.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects.
  • Issue Supplier Alerts.
  • Work with Quality on supplier scorecard.

Cost Reduction


  • Perform value analysis including participation and organization of cost savings initiatives.



  • Understand and ensure compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWXT.




  • Bachelor Degree in Business or Engineering (preferred).
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Supplier relationship development experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to effectively lead teams.
  • Project management experience is an asset.
  • Product knowledge and an understanding of Nuclear Culture.
  • Proficient in most business related software applications.
  • Significant capability with regard to risk management and quality tools.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 50% to 60% of the time (involves local travel consisting of day trips within Waterloo Region and some GTA; overnight stays are rare).
