Semi-Auto Welder (GTAW)


We have several opportunities for Semi-Auto (GTAW) Welders to join our production team at our facility in Cambridge, ON.  Each member of our team plays a critical role in BWXT Canada’s success and in ensuring we meet our customers’ quality, cost and delivery expectations.  Our Semi-Auto (GTAW) Welders are considered the best in the industry and we are proud of the high level of technical skills they demonstrate every day.  These opportunities consist of fully qualified status as well as opportunities for Learners who are working up to the fully qualified status.




  • Set-up, operate and troubleshoot all Machine GTAW welding machines and equipment to perform welding operations on company products to quality standards.  Includes the following:
    • Seal Welding
    • Tube or Pipe Butt Welding
    • Narrow Groove Welding
    • Nozzle Buttering
    • Nozzle ID/OD Welding
  • Read and interpret Production Orders, Drawings, Shop Instruction Sheet (SIS), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), plan and organize the welding process, Welding Card; identify and verify workpiece material, settings, weld head, power source, positioners and rotators.
  • Interpret weld beads deposited and make required adjustments to equipment.
  • Prepare and condition surfaces to applicable contour and cleanliness requirements.

  • Commitment to quality and the ability to work as a positive, effective team member, willing to go the extra mile to ensure we meet our customer expectations.
  • Successful completion of an intermediate welding program such as Welding Technologist or Welding Techniques.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong GTAW welding background.
  • Hand welding experience would be an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand/interpret drawings, specifications, operating procedures, work orders, etc.
  • Basic level blueprint reading skills.
  • Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights and in awkward positions.
