Join our dynamic team as a Labour Relations Manager and take the lead in driving strategic labour relations initiatives at our manufacturing plants in Cambridge and Owen Sound. You will play a critical role in fostering collaboration between the company and the United Steelworkers (USW) union, ensuring smooth operations and a positive workplace culture.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Labour Relations Leadership: Act as the primary liaison with the United Steelworkers, overseeing collective bargaining, grievance processes, and arbitrations.
  • Grievance Resolution: Manage and lead timely, impartial investigations into workplace incidents and complaints, ensuring adherence to labour laws.
  • Collective Bargaining: Lead collective bargaining efforts, including strategy development, proposal preparation, and serving as the company spokesperson.
  • Union Relations: Build and maintain strong working relationships with union leaders to resolve disputes and enhance labour-management relations.
  • Workforce Planning: Partner with HR and operations teams to assess staffing needs and oversee the hiring process for union roles.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support a team of four direct reports, driving a positive and accountable work environment.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Stay up to date on labour legislation and provide regular reports to senior management on labour trends and grievance activities.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in labour relations, with expertise in grievance handling, arbitration, and collective bargaining.
  • Education: A degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field is required. A Master's in Industrial Relations (MIR) is an asset.
  • Skills: Proven leadership in change management, conflict resolution, workforce planning, and labour law compliance.
  • Union Experience: Prior experience with United Steelworkers (USW) or similar unions is preferred.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to manage complex negotiations and foster positive union relationships.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $107,000 and $156,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
