We are currently recruiting for a Communications Specialist for our facility in Cambridge, Ontario.



Reporting to the Marketing Communications (MarCom) & Design Manager, the Communications Specialist will support the BWXT NPG Communications & Government Relations department in the development, distribution and/or execution of internal and external communications and events, including but not limited to: marketing materials; proposals, internal communications; external publications; tradeshows; conferences; facility tours; media events; website copy; news releases; PowerPoint presentations; tradeshow materials; advertisements; etc.



  1. External Communications / Event Management
  • Coordinate all aspects of company participation in tradeshows, conferences, on and offsite customer and media events, including determining appropriate display and audiovisual material, coordination and ordering of logistics, facility rentals, invitations, event staffing, catering and event management.
  • Working with Sales and other internal subject matter experts, provide creative direction, key messaging and copy editing for proposals and other external publications, including website, technical papers, brochures, product sheets, social media posts, etc.
  • Assist in development of market communication materials (videos, brochures, social media posts, advertisements) to support the BWXT Canada business plan, including consulting with internal subject matter experts, editing copy, and coordinating material orders with vendors for photography, graphics, ad placements and securing necessary approvals.
  • Develop video scripts/storyboards for promotional videos and speaking notes when required.
  • Manage promotional inventory and handle promotional merchandise requests.
  • Assist with creation of social media posts for corporate and subsidiaries.
  • Manage and maintain corporate and subsidiary website content.


  1. Internal Communications Management
  • Develop and manage internal events and special functions (i.e.; employee addresses, appreciation BBQs, recognition events, award ceremonies, training sessions, customer tours, etc.).
  • Research, interview subject matter experts, draft messaging, proofread, take photos and obtain necessary approvals for internal communications such as, but not limited to: announcements, stories, blogs, articles, speeches, videos, etc. for the portal [intranet] electronic bulletin boards, posters, etc.).
  • Support various departments with writing and event management support and guidance.
  • Storyboard, project manage and assist execution of internal video and photography shoots.
  • Work with MarCom & Design Manager on layout of basic graphical products, including newsletters, posters, digital signage posters.
  • Sit on the Indigenous Relations Committee and assist Director, Communications with meeting minutes.


  1.  Media, Community & Government Relations  
  • Oversee the BWXT Canada Contribution & Membership program, including development of annual forecast, responses to community requests, issuance of payments in line with budget and forecasting, obtaining approvals for new requests, coordination of sponsorship and event staffing requirements and branding.
  • Oversee planning and logistics for media events, government official facility tours and meetings and community events. This includes the booking of facilities/rooms, rental equipment, catering, scheduling, draft remarks, media advisory development, coordination with customers, invitees and industry associations.
  • Provide first drafts for external press releases, sourcing information and acquiring necessary approvals.
  • Regularly update and maintain the BWXT Canada Crisis Communications Plan and serve as the coordinator for crisis communications planning.



  • Community College Diploma in Public Relations, Marketing Communications/Design, Journalism or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years experience in the field.
  • Event management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, adapting styles/tones to different audiences.
  • Excellent writing skills, including logic and structure, grammar, usage, syntax and punctuation for emails, letters, reports, memos, presentations, ad copy and all forms of collateral.
  • Strong research, interviewing and writing skills.
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate to a diverse audience.
  • Ability to coordinate various projects and meet a variety of milestones under very tight timelines. 



  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.
  • Video editing and camera experience.
  • Digital signage experience.
  • Experience with web content management (Wordpress, Composite C1).
