Welder -- SMAW, GTAW (Weekend Shift)

We are currently hiring a qualified SMAW (stick) and GTAW (TIG) welder for our facility in Barberton, Ohio. The individual selected for this position will set up and perform electric arc and heliarc welding operations to product pressure and strength welds in all positions on our weekend crew.

 

Candidates please note: This position is available on our weekend shift which consists of twelve (12) hours on Saturday and Sunday and eight (8) hours on Monday (the eight shift could be Friday instead of Monday); work thirty two (32) hours and get paid for forty (40) hours.  Scheduled off days are Tuesday through Friday or Monday through Thursday depending upon the shift.  Training will be on the Monday - Friday crew before being assigned to the weekend crew. 

 

Primary Duties

  • Moves material, product and equipment to and from work area. 
  • Sets up own preheat equipment as required. 
  • Positions material to be welded using positioners, horses, jigs, or tables, securing with bolts, pins, or similar devices. 
  • Activates power supply and adjusts flow meter and related welding controls and apparatus for proper amperage and voltage. 
  • Loads wire in feed rolls. 
  • Performs minor maintenance on welding equipment, such as removing dirt from wire guides, cleaning hoses, tightening or replacing small parts and units. 
  • Obtains and changes bottled gas and makes necessary hose connections.
  • Welds under any required preheat. 
  • Tack welds all positions. 
  • Removes defects and re-welds defective areas as required. 
  • Assists other classified employees in duties requiring welding. 
  • Performs grinding and arc airing, as required, to repair and finish welds. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Desired candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalency coupled with a minimum of two (2) years’ demonstrated experience performing similar welding tasks. Lesser experience coupled with formal training and/or certification may be considered. Additionally:

 

  • All applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment weld screen
  • Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be able to work the weekend shift
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk to hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Pay for this position is up to $29.429 per hour and is complimented by a generous benefits package.
