Tooling Engineering Manager  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, Ohio


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:


  • Manages and oversees the work of eleven Mechanical, Structural, and Civil Engineers.
  • Reviews technical drawings, design reports, and stress/structural designs for functionality, cost effectiveness, and manufacturability for machining, welding, and safety.
  • Manages all tooling design projects associated with new manufacturing machines, machine redesigns, lifting & handling, scaffolding, jigs, fixtures, gages, pressure vessels, flushing, and hydro testing.
  • Supports manufacturing operations on a daily basis in the areas of mechanical, structural, fitting, welding, fabrication, machining, cranes, and fatigue design/analysis.
  • Evaluates tool requests, vendor quotes, and vendor cababilities and estimates costs of machining/welding.
  • Responsible for the rigging designs for all manufacturing shop overhead lifts up to 200 tons.
  • Oversees the tie-down design of components (up to 150 tons) to railcars and trailers.
  • Manages a $1.7 million department expense budget.
  • Develops proposals for tooling/rigging design and engineering scopes of work.
  • Trains and mentors new employees.
  • Utilizes SAP to track project status and funding.



Job Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 10 years engineering experience.
  • Candidate shall possess experience in recent design and stress analysis, 3D CAD (NX Preferred), thorough understand of machining and welding, technical blueprint reading, GD&T, code reference, technical writing, competent computer skills, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Preferred competencies: MBA, Professional Engineering license, Finite Element Analysis, ASME Section B31.3 piping design, ASME Section VIII pressure vessel design, SAP, internal company standards that incorporate BTH-1, and hands-on machining/welding experience.
  • Must be able to obtain government security clearance.

Position requires U.S. Citizenship (with no dual citizenship) and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation and previous employment reference verifications.
