Tooling Engineering Intern  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, OH

 

 

At BWXT, our interns perform challenging tasks in their field of study while developing and delivering unique solutions for use in a nuclear environment. A BWXT internship not only provides valuable on the job training but allows you to be a part of something bigger!

 

BWXT offers paid internships along with a housing stipend for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Barberton, OH.  Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks. At the end of the internship, each intern has the opportunity to present their completed work/assigned projects to the leadership team. 

 

This internship is within the Tool Engineering Department which is responsible for designing specialized tooling used in large component fabrication. Some examples of tooling include jigs, machining/welding fixtures, work platforms, protective/cleanliness covers, gauges, and Lifting & Handling equipment. 

 

Internship responsibilities may include the following:

 

  • Using Siemens NX, create and/or revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings. 
  • Work directly with Tool Engineers on shop floor issues. This will provide direct exposure to engineering challenges, stress analysis, and weld sizing calculations.
  • Assist with tooling evaluation requests. This would involve looking at tool drawings in comparison to the tool in inventory in order to verify that all parts are accounted for and suitable for use.
  • Create purchase requisitions in SAP to purchase items from external suppliers and tool fabricators such as newly designed tools, consumables or missing parts.

 

Requirements:

 

Candidates for the Tool Engineering internship position must be currently enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program. 

Preferred candidates will be sophomore standing or above, or have equivalent engineering coursework completed at the time the internship begins. 

Knowledge in 3D CAD modeling and drafting is a plus.

Must be willing to work in a machining/welding shop environment.

Knowledge or hands-on experience in machining and welding is a plus, but not required or performed in this position.

US citizenship with no dual citizenship is required for this position.
