Thermal / Fluids Design Engineer  - BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, OH


Responsibilities include:  


  • Provide fluid flow and heat transfer performance design and analysis of components for nuclear power systems to assure adequate functional design.
  • Work with large data sets to infer trends and improve analysis techniques.
  • Design and develop test hardware, instrumentation, data acquisition hardware/software, and test plans.
  • Work with test technicians to fabricate test hardware and test setups.  Assist in the operation of tests.
  • Process test data, report results, and support data interpretation and understanding.
  • Work with other design and manufacturing engineers in development of design of components to be manufactured by BWXT Nuclear Operations Group.
  • Review fabrication drawings to ensure they satisfy functional design requirements.
  • Interface with and support development activities including testing and analysis of steam separation equipment.
  • Communicate information and status orally and in written form.
  • The selected candidate will work in a team comprising of thermal/hydraulic, structural, manufacturing, welding, project and QA engineers to evaluate and optimize pressure vessel designs.
  • The candidate will also be working closely with manufacturing and project engineers to resolve fabrication related issues.


Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degreen in Mechanical Engineering or in applicable field required, Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years' of experience or PhD in lieu of experience
  • Knowledge of single-and two-phase fluid flow and heat transfer analysis tools and methods, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD). 
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and retain a DOE clearance.
