Section Manager Welding Engineering - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, OH   


Responsibilities Include:

  • Sets expectations and administers the welding engineers' job functions to provide uniform, coordinated direction of the company's short and long range goals.  Ensures welding processes and equipment are adequate to produce high quality welds; works with Facilities and Manufacturing to maintain/repair equipment as needed.
  • Communicates and interacts with managers of all levels and departments to establish goals and provide direction for the Welding Engineering department to support safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Responsible for coordinating the preparation, review, and submittal of proposals within the department and synchronizing the efforts with program management to provide the proper level of personnel support.
  • Negotiates welding related technical requirements at proposal state and throughout contract term.
  • Establishes weld wire quantity and special qualification requirements for each proposal and for NOG contracts.
  • Manages personnel to support design efforts for component fabrication and reviews engineering drawings as needed to provide for economic fabrication of highest quality.
  • Manages personnel to make sure all supporting documents are available and useable for shop floor fabrication such as welding procedures, manufacturing plans, and any supplementary welding information.
  • Assures there is sufficient technical welding engineering support for shop welding surveillance throughout all shifts of fabrication.
  • Responsible for maintaining a Welding Engineering presence for BWXT at conferences, consortiums, technical organizations, and throughout the NR program.
  • Evaluates welding performance through analysis of the Weld Defect Report and initiates necessary corrective action.
  • Responsible for making sure the welding requirements of NAVSEA 250-1500-1, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and customer specifications are understood and followed throughout fabrication.
  • Provides technical justification for DSR's (Degradation of Specification Requirements) and RAR's (Repair Approval Requests) on all contracts.
  • Responsible for developing, submitting, and monitoring for department spending and headcount budgets.
  • Responsible for planning and evaluating welding research and development related to future program initiatives and manages customer workscopes that apply to future welding technology.
  • Provides guidance, mentoring, and developmental opportunities to all individuals within the department.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Minimum of Manager 1 experience (internal) or 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience

• Prior experience in Welding Engineering

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and SAP
