Operations Data Analyst - BWX Technologies - Barberton, Ohio 

 

The position of Operations Data Analyst is available at the Nuclear Operations Group facility in Barberton, Ohio.  This position will develop, implement and manage key business metrics, performance indicators and reporting across diverse data sets to identify opportunities to improve business and manufacturing processes.  Working across departments with data and employees throughout the business, this position will serve to provide the data and information required to drive impactful business improvements. 

 

General Profile

  • Identify and develop projects to bring about significant improvement to core business metrics.
  • Interface with many internal and customer contacts on projects, working both collaboratively and independently on solutions.
  • Track and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Generate data with instrumentation and sensor suites, including design and implementation.
  • Write algorithms to process and curate data, such as, with python data cleaning methods, time-series or machine vision techniques.
  • Develop empirical data models and/or physics simulation models.
  • Develop and maintain project registers and action item tracking logs.
  • Design infrastructure for extracting and transforming structured and unstructured data, from sensor and imagery data sources, quality instrumentation, lasers and CT scans, to data warehouses and data lakes in the cloud or on-prem.
  • Automate data pipelines and analytics, for machine learning, digital twins, and data modeling.
  • Improves existing data reporting, dashboards and information sharing tools to improve production and cost and schedule performance.
  • Collaborate with information stakeholders to identify opportunities to organize and present data and information to improve decision making at all levels of the Operations Department.
  • Must be able to work across departmental and organizational boundary and facilitate cooperation and coordination among diverse stakeholders.
  • From a data perspective, identifies and resolves technical, operational and organizational problems that impact manufacturing effectiveness.
  • Works constructively with professional employees and/or supervisors/superintendents.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop a deep understanding of data streams and structures that affect the manufacturing of NOG-B products.
  • Leveraging existing data streams, reporting and dashboards, identify opportunities to improve the company’s understanding of business functions and develop tools to improve decision making at all levels of the operations department.
  • In collaboration with other stakeholders, identify opportunities for new data collection and organization to improve the performance of the business.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Data Science or related field
  • Typically, a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.  Must be able to practice clear, concise, and result oriented communication to convey and coordinate technical exchanges internally and externally.
  • Must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple manufacturing teams and systems.
  • Python and SQL skills with database query and authoring are required.

 

Preferred Qualification

  • Other analytical programming skills, such as C++ or R are a plus.
  • Comfort using skills related to working with sensors to extract data into unstructured datasets is desirable.
  • Experience with statistical techniques, machine learning methods, or design of experiments is a plus.
  • Prior experience with data analysis in manufacturing desired.
