NDE Examiner - BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, OH


Fulltime dayshift quality engineer for manufacturing facility.  NDE Examiner 1st shift responsible for engineering support of production manufacturing processes for dedicated product lines.


Responsibilities include:  


  • Technical responsibility over all aspects of MT/PT/VT disciplines.
  • Support, lead, and provide direction to assure compliance in all on-site and vendor MT/PT/VT activity.
  • Evaluate new non-destructive examination requirements and specifications imposed by the customer to effectively fulfill the intended requirements.
  • Represent the company during contract negotiations and technical discussions with customers regarding MT/PT/VT capabilities, reliability and technical concerns.
  • Assist inspection personnel in solving MT/PT/VT related issues when special technology and new techniques are introduced.
  • Able to perform NDE inspections using one or more of the following NDE disciplines: MT, PT, VT.  Ability to perform RT, UT or ET is a plus.
  • Plan and develop activities and procedures suitable to accomplish tasks related to area of responsibility.
  • Provide oversight and surveillance of shop floor/inspection personnel concerning MT/PT/VT compliance.
  • Communicate regularly with customer technical representatives.  Engage in frequent contact with other departments and other section of the QA department at all levels.
  • Maintain constant communications with members of all program teams to assure timely and appropriate resolution of product NDE problems. 
  • Required to gain a thorough understanding of all customer and company requirements in order to verify that MT/PT/VT activities are compliant.
  • Performs technical and statistical investigations into NDE issues with the objective of first time quality and reduction of manufacturing losses.
  • Maintain NDE certification program for the facility and assist in training other NDE personnel as required.
  • Provide NDE training as needed for the facility.
  • Manage NDE program materials including test props, exams, written training materials, and presentations.
  • Review NDE inspection operations in manufacturing plans when requested.


Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in technical field or relevant equivalent work experience of 5 years.
  • Prior knowledge of NDE methods with an emphasis on MT/PT/VT.  RT/UT/ET is a plus.
  • Strong preference for candidates with NDE Level III certifications in one of more of following disciplines: RT, MT, PT, VT, UT, ET.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain Examiner status in MT/PT/VT within the first year of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE Confidential clearance.  Must be a US citizen (no dual citizenship).






Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship (with no dual citizenship) and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation and previous employment reference verifications.
