Mechanical Design (Tooling) Engineering - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, Ohio
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Design and procure tooling jigs, machining/welding fixtures, work platforms, protective/cleanliness covers, various hand tools, and many other one of a kind specialized tools used to fabricate large pressure vessel components.
- Design lifting & handling tools (strongbacks, rolling rings, belly bands, positioning fixtures etc.), crane operator lift sketches, and transportation drawings (railcar and trailer) for moving high value components.
- Perform structural analysis of tooling and create design stress reports when required by utilizing hand calculations, FEA, and other available resources in order to verify the tool meets the allowable design criteria.
- Using Siemens NX, create 3D CAD models, component assemblies, and detailed tool drawings (GD&T used when applicable).
- Create purchase requisitions in SAP to buy tooling items from external suppliers and machining/welding fabricators.
- Work with external fabricators by phone and occasionally make local visits to resolve any technical issues during tool fabrication.
- Work with shop floor personnel and welding/manufacturing engineers to develop new tool concepts, improvements, and answer any questions regarding the use of a new or existing tool.
- Perform periodic audits of new and existing tools to ensure designs are safe and meet their original design intention
Job Qualifications / Requirements:
- Ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1-5 years of combined CO-OP/Engineering experience.
- Must be proficient in 3D CAD (Siemens NX Preferred): Modeling, Assemblies, and detailed Drafting.
- Other computer skills: SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to size structural members and calculate weld sizes. Knowledge in FEA is a plus.
- Must be able to read and create technical drawings. Knowledge in GD&T is a plus.
- Must be willing to work in a machining/welding shop environment. Knowledge or hands-on experience in machining/welding is a plus.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Pay: $62,000 - $97,000
The base salary range for this position in Ohio (US-OH) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $97,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
