Unit Manager, Materials Engineering - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, Ohio
BWX Technologies, Barberton, OH location is looking for a Unit Manager of Materials Engineering to join the team! This individual will directly supervise Materials Engineering personnel to assure that material used in NOG products meets all contract and design requirements, material procured and fabricated will produce safe equipment of high integrity, the department executes its work in a timely and compliant manner that supports the company’s commitments, goals and initiatives.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly leading and coordinating a team of Materials Engineers to meet business goals and demand.
- Assigning departmental goals, supporting day-to-day workload requests, evaluating performance, and supporting personnel development.
- Assuring training of department personnel is well executed and records are adequately maintained.
- Performing front-line manager duties to address emergent issues or Production and Program Team priorities through deployment of available resources.
- Reporting and managing department metrics and backlogs.
- Representing the department in internal and external meetings.
- Maintain working knowledge of the functions, roles and responsibilities of the department and the systems used to manage work and achieve results. Promoting system improvement where there are opportunities.
- Identifying and implementing broad job function and efficiency improvements. Maintaining and improving procedures and work instructions impacting execution of department responsibilities.
- Preparing manhour estimates, supporting BOM development and developing technical comments to customer specifications in support of proposal activities.
- Delegating activities to Materials Engineering Team Lead or other personnel, as appropriate.
- Support Senior Unit Manager by providing feedback on contract EACs and Loadboards, providing cost center management and support, and supporting other initiatives and priorities, as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s in Materials, Metallurgical or similar Engineering
- Prior experience leading a team
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearence
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7-10 years in Materials Engineering of Nuclear Components
- Master’s degree in any discipline
