This is a critical position with high-visibility at the plant, within BWXT and with the company’s customers.  The candidate will need to balance hands-on action with strategic activities.  They will be responsible for building and fostering a high-performing team of project managers who will be the driving force behind the business recovering to a demanding schedule. This position will report directly to the General Manager. 


Responsibilities/duties include:


  • Build a high performing team of project managers to execute programs that meet or exceed as-sold requirements.
  • Manage a project management team and obtain assistance from the functional organizations to ensure performance of all efforts necessary to maximize cash flow and deliver contracted goods and services within quality, cost and targets.
  • Own and be accountable for the profit and loss (P&L) for each project; schedule deliverable; customer interface; and liaison with technical, quality and other business partners as needed.
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards to develop and manage project plans to effectively execute deliverables, including risk registers, action plans as needed for mitigation, along with constant oversight.
  • Interface with other departments to review and identify potential new work scopes, products or services to ensure compatibility. 
  • Monitor project costs, cash flow, CAI investment charges, schedules, quality and documentation requirements.
  • Provide project updates to management and customer on a consistent basis regarding strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Direct special projects at the direction of the customer or General Manager. 


Minimum qualifications:


  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET accredited) or related field. 
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in project management.
  • In-depth working knowledge of project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and developing project teams to strengthen team members’ capabilities and skill sets.
  • Proven leadership accomplishments and team building.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve.
  • Proven success working with all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.


Preferred qualifications:


  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the nuclear industry or indirect nuclear operations or other high consequence industry experience is preferred.




The Project Management Director will work a 9/80 work schedule while receiving market leading pay, paid time off, paid winter holiday shutdown, educational refund benefits, medical, dental, vision and service-based retirement contributions with additional 401k match.
