Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, OH

 

Job Responsibilities: 

 

  • Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to design then modify the facility power distribution systems as required to support machinery and production support equipment installations in the Maintenance, Facility Engineering, and Operations departments.
  • Performs single-line modeling including short circuit calculations, voltage drop calculations, conductor sizing, time current curve studies, and conduit fill calculations.
  • Assesses needs then designs motor-control systems, switch panels, transformers, and other electrical equipment and components according to sound electrical engineering principles.
  • Prepares electrical scopes of work, evaluates subcontractor quotes, prepares capital authorization request packages, creates schedules, then manages facility power distribution capital and expense projects.
  • Helps maintain the plant power infrastructure, electrical testing, and upgrades of all substations and switchgear on site while complying to applicable code requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper documentation and arc flash labeling per Federal/State/Local applicable code requirements. 
  • Plans facility power outages and oversees electrical contractors during weekends or holidays as needed to minimize disruptions to the growing 24/7 production demand.   

 

Qualifications/Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of design experience in facility power distribution systems is preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 70E and 79, NETA MTS Standards, Pearl Reconditioning Standards, and 29 CFR 1910 OSHA Standards.
  • Advanced understanding of facility power distribution systems in a production shop environment is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and EasyPower software is a plus.
