Electrical Engineer - Controls  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, OH


Job Responsibilities: 


  • Electrical Engineer designs, develops, and supervises all aspects of equipment and machinery electrical control systems.

  • Oversees the development and installation of CNC, PLC, and motor drive control system upgrades.
  • Responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software.
  • Assigned to the Electrical Engineering Department and reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
  • Works as a member of a team of electricians, electrical technicians, and electrical engineers.
  • Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to assist the Maintenance, Facility Engineering, and Operations departments with troubleshooting, testing, and modifying machine/equipment/overhead crane electrical control systems on the shop floor.
  • Assists with plant-wide electrical infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.
  • Assesses needs for machine drive/control system upgrades.
  • Prepares electrical scopes of work, evaluates subcontractor quotes, prepares capital authorization packages, establishes equipment outage needs, then manages the installation of capital machine/equipment control system upgrades.
  • Plans control upgrade power outages and oversees electrical contractors during weekends or holidays, as needed, to minimize disruptions to the growing 24/7 production demand.    




  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years experience in control system design/troubleshooting is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of National Electric Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 70E and 79, NETA MTS Standards, Pearl Reconditioning Standards, and 29 CFR 1910 OSHA Standards.

  • Advanced understanding of Siemens or Fanuc control systems in a production shop environment.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and EasyPower software.

  • Must be US Citizen and be able to obtain a government security clearance.
