Summary of Responsibilities

  • Makes any and all types of inspections (true position, flatness, concentricity, parallelism, profiles, finish, etc.) in all shop areas and Material Services with a minimum of supervision.
  • Locates and moves material with necessary equipment as required.
  • Cleans and removes minor burrs or upset metal as required to facilitate inspection.
  • Sets up and uses machining center for inspections. Sets up and operates the vision system.
  • Works from a variety of written and supporting data as required.
  • Inspects any and all products and component parts to assure all quality requirements. Identifies, tags, accepts or rejects: makes sketches and completes report of inspection forms.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and printed material descriptions of any complexity. Generates any and all necessary documentation. Verifies the completeness of shop and inspection operations and non-destructive tests when required.
  • Develops and implements new inspection methods and procedures to suite unique conditions. Lays out and makes templates as required for inspection.
  • Uses any and all types of precision measuring equipment and gages. Contacts all levels of engineering and management to resolve issues.
  • Works with BWXT, customer, or government inspectors as required.
  • Must be able to intelligently convey the results of inspections to shop supervision, engineers and/or customer representatives. Performs incidental duties as the job dictates.
  • Witness hydro testing as required and records results.
  • Inspects bonded storage to assure traceability. Checks stored material and equipment to assure proper identity, storage and preservation.
  • Inspects trucks and trailers for safe load conditions. Inputs and receives information through computer terminals as required. Required to climb.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T requirements.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints.
  • Routinely uses precision measuring devices such as depth micrometers, calipers, height gages, tri-micrometers, etc.


Minimum Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED required (will be verified), plus 5 years of inspection experience - strongly prefer in a close tolerance manufacturing/fabrication environment.
  • Must be able to work ANY SHIFT.
  • Must be a US CITIZEN. Must not hold a Dual Citizenship.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check prior to hire date.
  • Must pass Quality Control tests as required.
  • May be required to maintain alloy identity, pressure test qualifications along with visual and dimensional qualifications.
  • Must pass entry examination.
  • Must have working knowledge of geometric and algebraic principles.


Please note: This is a SECOND SHIFT position.  Pay for this position is up to $30.267 per hour and is complimented by a generous benefits package.
