Design Engineer  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, Ohio

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

  • The candidate will perform stress analyses of nuclear pressure vessels and other highly engineered products using finite element analysis, custom post-processing software, and closed form analytical techniques. 
  • The position involves the use of standard and advanced structural analysis methods include linear elastic sizing, fatigue, elastic-plastic, fracture mechanics, shock and vibration, and thermal/mechanical. 
  • The candidate will work with members of other engineering disciplines (manufacturing, quality, welding, drafters, thermal-fluids, etc.) in a team environment to generate component designs to meet code requirements and to optimize the design for manufacturability. 
  • The candidate will also work closely with on-site manufacturing to resolve real time fabrication related issues.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering. 
  • 10 years of industry experience required
  • An advanced degree may be substituted in lieu of experience 2 years for master's.
  • Experience in the use of finite element analysis (FEA) software (preferably Abaqus or Ansys). 
  • Experience in 3D CAD to manipulate design models for analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Knowledge of ASME Code Section III and VIII or AISC is a plus.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in presentations and written technical reports.  
  • Experience of computer programming codes (ex. C++, Fortran, Python, etc.) is a plus.
  • Program management experience is a plus but not required.
