Design Engineer 2   -   BWX Technologies, Inc. -   Barberton, Ohio 


Responsibilities include:


  • Perform structural analyses of nuclear pressure vessels, shipping rigs, and other highly engineered products.
  • Work with members of other engineering disciplines in a team setting to generate, analyze and optimize component designs.
  • Support the shop with fabrication related issues.
  • Work with finite element analysis (FEA) software (preferably Abaqus or Ansys)
  • The job involves the use of standard and advanced structural analysis methods in the design of pressure vessels and their associated internals. 
  • The selected candidate will work in a team comprising of thermal/hydraulic, manufacturing, welding, project and QA engineers to analyze and optimize pressure vessel designs to meet design code requirements as well as analyze for manufacturability.
  • Examples of advanced methods used in the design process are fatigue analysis, elastic-plastic analysis, fracture mechanics-based analysis, vibration and shock analysis, and thermal/mechanical analysis

Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred)
  • 2+ years of expierence 
  • The candidate must have experience in the use of finite element analysis (FEA) software (preferably Abaqus or Ansys).   
  • The candidate will also be working closely with manufacturing and project engineers to resolve fabrication related issues. Knowledge of ASME Section III Code rules or AISC is a plus.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DOE issued Security Clearance
