The role of the EHS/Quality Specialist will be based in Arnprior and will support the Fuel Manufacturing Group by providing expertise in Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality Assurance. Reporting to the Quality Manager for Arnprior the position will have a direct impact on meeting the sites’ EHS requirements and quality needs. The position may also have exposure to external customers.
BWXT is the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Our Role:
The EHS & Quality Specialist will utilize the experience and expertise to solve problems, support continuous improvement and maintain the EHS quality management systems.
Your Day to Day:
- Environmental, Health and Safety
• Administer all aspects of the site Environmental and Health and Safety Management System.
• Perform job safety risk assessments by thoroughly understanding workstation procedures and by conducting employee interviews.
• Manage the EHS training programs and coordinate the activities of the Workplace Health and Safety Committee as per the Canada Labour Code II.
• Respond to EHS concerns, participate in cross-functional teams, use problem solving and troubleshooting techniques.
• Perform Hazard Identification and safety inspections in the workplace.
• Manage the compliance of inspections and the EHS corrective action system.
• Conduct incident investigations and other EHS tasks as requiredDevelop and implement the facility’s environmental programs (air, water, waste) ensuring compliance with environmental policies and procedures. - Perform audits on EHS for conformity to regulatory and customer requirements.
- Quality Assurance
• Quality Assurance needs will include but not exclusively;
• Support the quality management system, including but not limited to, vendor management, non-conformance, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Coordinate quality certifications, document control requirements and calibration system.
• Revising and maintaining procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance with regulatory, governing standards and customer requirements.
• Conduct internal audits and self-assessments for the site.
• Produce and present reports relevant to quality performance metrics.
• Help manage the site training program.
• Support continuous product and process improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in a related field or minimum 3 years or EHS and or QA experience.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal Communication skills.
- Knowledge of applicable of ANSI Z10 OHSMS or Canada Labour Code II, CSA N299 or NQA-1 standards is preferred.
- Proven analytical ability to judge the adequacy of safety, quality assurance and adherence to requirements and to participate in the resolution of problems.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Hands-on problem solver.
- Organized and detail orientated
- Proficient with MS Office software.
- Prior experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.

The base salary range for this position in Peterborough at the start of employment is expected to be between $68,000 and $91,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
